Being a teacher has some perks besides monetary value or anything materialistic.
Even if I only started recently, the students at the Salvation Learning Center (I am not sure if that is the correct name, Mandarin is a bitch sometimes)
has grown quite close to me now. I don’t know why but they are the sweetest things.
I had my ESL class today and we were talking about our recent trip to the Ocean Zoo(park) and also who is in our family and our topic for today was In My Classroom.
At the beginning of the class they were saying something to me in Chinese but I couldn’t understand what they were trying to say. Although I used to study Chinese I haven’t been using it for over 2 years so I’m really rusty at it. But the students were really patient with their “laoshi” (teacher–me) and explained it to me in various ways and they even tried so hard to try to translate it in English. Anyway, they ended up just drawing on the board what they were trying to tell me. Here are some of the photos. Then at the end of the post I will tell you what they were trying to say to me.
They were trying to ask me to tell them or to show them the people in my family. So they started drawing their families.
I think it was so cute. Goes to prove that art is a very universal language.
